Six Catholic Churches You Need To Visit In Louisiana

I feel like every time you step into a cathedral there is something that always seems to take your breath away. The awe-inspiring statues, the holy vibes, the architectural details, all the way to the stain glass windows. It’s one of Catholicism’s greatest wonders.

You’ll find this beautiful cathedral downtown Lafayette, La.  It’s called The Cathedral of St. John The Evangelist. I encourage you to take your time exploring the old graveyard and even try to attend Mass at the cathedral. Make sure you take the walk all the way around the cathedral.

My mom and I didn’t make it to Mass but we explored all around. She is so quick to spot every detail that I was quick to overlook. Sounds creepy but I enjoy touring historical gravesites. From there we made our way inside the cathedral. I was so taken back by the holy atmosphere that I didn’t realize my mom was lighting candles by your Blessed Virgin Mary statue. Once I approached her she said, “I lit a candle for you, me, dad, and Cameron.  The thing is, she didn’t realize you have to donate a few bucks to light a prayer candle. Thankfully, I had the extra cash handy in my pocket, (I call it my Pam Hennigan savings account) because you never know what she will get us into on our adventures. Her intentions are ALWAYS for the better, but most of the times they turn out to be an epic fail. J

After it cost us to tour the cathedral, we stumbled upon this OLD oak tree with a fence around it. I don’t really know the history of this oak tree but I’m sure it was hundreds of years old. This oak tree was the biggest tree I’ve ever seen in my life! You can see it in the pictures below.

I’m leaving you with my top favorite cathedrals in Louisiana to tour if you ever get a chance. There are so many more churches that I didn’t add to the list that I would love to show you – maybe next time!

1. St. John The Evangelist Cathedral,

Lafayette, La

2. Immaculate Conception Cathedral, Natchitoches, La

3. St. Mary Assumption Church, New Orleans, La

4. St Martinville Evangeline Memorial and Evangeline Oak

5. Our Lady of the Oaks Grand, Coteau, La

6. St. Joseph Catholic Church, Gretna, La

Best Wishes,

    Hi Kacie –
I lost my mom 4 months ago to the same beast (cancer). I was able to take my mother on her bucket list trip to Hawaii one year prior to her passing. We laughed so much and had great fun.
We created as many memories as we could together.
I traveled the very hard road with Mom as one of two primary caretakers and had the privelage of ensuring she had a quality of life until she went to Heaven.
My prayers and thoughts are with you both, if there is anything I can do – a listening ear or whatever- let me know.
    Hugs and love ❤️

I’m so sorry for your loss. I’m so glad to hear you were able to be with her and spend as much time as you could with her too. Sounds like you were super close to your mom like I am mine. Yes really tough ♥️
