What I'm Lucky For This Saint Patrick's Day

Happy Saint Patrick’s Day everyone!! When this day rolls around I always think of it as being how “Fat Tuesday” is for us down south, with the celebration of Mardi Gras. During our Lenten season we give up eating meats as a penance on Fridays. Saint Patrick’s Day is very similar to this in Ireland, except their “Fat Tuesday” is today in honor of Saint Patrick. I wanted to share today, what I’m lucky to have in my Faith and to give you a little ‘fun facts’ on Saint Patrick!
Fun Facts about Saint Patrick

1. Did you know Saint Patrick wasn’t “Irish” at all? He was in fact, British!
2. He came to Ireland as a prisoner and slave by a group of Irish raiders.
3. Saint Patrick escaped through a “vision” he had by God that lead him back to Britain.
4. A second “vision” came from an Angel which lead him back to Ireland to spread the word of Christ as a missionary and Priest to convert the people of the land. It is known that he “got rid of the snakes” from Ireland.
5. Saint Patrick’s Day is considered a Holy Day.
6. While spreading the word of Christ in Ireland, Saint Patrick used the shamrock clover as a symbol of the Holy Trinity because the shamrock has three blades. The Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.
7. Because the Shamrock was a sign of the Holy Spirit, this began the symbol of a “good luck” charm.
8. Did you know that Saint Patrick wore blue clothes and not green clothes!
9. The green comes from Ireland as a symbol of their green terrain lands.
10. Saint Patrick’s name was not actually Patrick, it was Maewyn Succat and he is one of the most popular patron Saints known around the world today. March 17th is the day we celebrate the anniversary of his death.

What I’m Lucky for on Saint Patrick’s Day
There are a million things I’m lucky for on this Saint Patrick’s Day, but here are the top ten reasons I’m lucky to have my Faith.
1. I’m lucky: we have our Rosary. One of my favorite all-time Saints is, Saint Padre Pio. He vows that the Rosary is a weapon for these times. So true, although I fail at saying my Rosary faithfully.
2. I’m lucky: in our Faith we can never stop learning about the Catechism
3. I’m lucky: the ACTS missions have spread to our community. Getting to know my fellow parishioners has been a blessing.
4. I’m lucky: we have seven sacraments, seeing the “anointing of the sick” as my mother was going through cancer was really something special.
5. I’m lucky: we believe in purgatory.
6. I’m lucky: we have confession. The Sacrament in which God can raise us up, even when our sorrow is weak and imperfect.
7. I’m lucky: we have so many beautiful prayers we can turn to.
8. I’m lucky: Mother Angelica started the EWTN network channel. I really fell in love with her over the years. She is absolutely one of my favorite people ever and I’m sure someday she will be canonized as a Saint.
9. I’m lucky: our Mass is based around the altar. One of my favorite hymns in Mass is, “here at this table”.
10. I’m lucky: I found my Faith when I needed God the most, even when I’m so unworthy of his love. I kept the Faith the size of my mustard seed and it prevailed!
